What Is a KVM and Why Has It Always Been Complicated?

KVM stands for Keyboard, Video, Mouse — the three things you need to control a computer. A KVM device sits between two machines and lets one control the other, transmitting the screen output of the controlled machine while sending keyboard and mouse signals back to it.
