The BYD Dolphin Surf is essentially the European version of China’s hugely popular BYD Seagull — redesigned for European safety standards and tastes. With a starting price well under €20,000, it undercuts almost every rival on this list. It is not the most refined to drive, but the value proposition is hard to argue with.

Citroën has always been about comfort, and the ë-C3 continues that tradition in electric form. Built on Stellantis’s STLA Smart platform, it is one of the most complete entry-level EVs on the market — with 320 km of WLTP range, 100 kW DC fast charging (20–80% in just 26 minutes), and a comfortable ride ideal for families. The MG4 remains one of the best-value performance EVs in the budget segment. It reaches 100 km/h in around 7.7 seconds, handles corners with surprising composure, and comes loaded with equipment including a 10.25-inch touchscreen and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. With 117 kW DC fast charging it is one of the quicker-charging cars in this segment — a genuine strength over some French rivals.
